Vietnam Veterans of Morehead oral history project, 1983-1984.

Graduates of Morehead State University who served in the armed forces in the Vietnam War give their impressions of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people, the Vietcong, the armies of South and North Vietnam, and their fellow soldiers and officers. They talk about why they think the United States was in Vietnam and what roles were played by American presidents. Other topics include the military strategies of the United States and North Vietnam, the reasons the United States lost the war, the draft, antiwar protests, conscientious objectors, the effects of the news media on the war, and communism. The veterans discuss their daily activities in Vietnam, their combat experiences, drug use by soldiers, race relations among the troops, weapons such as the M-14 and M-16 rifles, returning home from Vietnam, their education at Morehead State (before and/or after military service), their experiences in finding employment, participation in veterans' organizations, and readjustment to civilian life.
